Education

Extension & Education Services

As our name suggests, extension is at the heart of AWES. We have developed many factsheets, infographics, articles, and manuals about agriculture, forestry and woodlot management. These can be found on our “Publications” page.

AWES is an active partner with many Canadian not-for-profits & charitable organizations teaching about the environmental, economic, and health benefits of trees. We are always looking to be involved through teaching in-person workshops, development of digital media factsheets, posters, and manuals.

We  have a 17+ year history of offering presentations, workshops, tours, and courses across Alberta. Common topics that we teach include:

  • Woodlot Management
  • Riparian & Wetland Restoration
  • Slope Stabilization & Erosion
  • Tree services & Edible Eco-buffers
  • Shelterbelts and Buffers
  • Pollinators & Tree Pests
  • Alley Cropping, Silvopasture, and Food Forests
  • Enhancing Habitat for Wildlife (including Building Houses for Bats, Bumblebees and Birds!)
