Ryan joined AWES as an Intermediate Environmental Technician in spring 2023 to coordinate restoration projects, technical workshops, and provide extension services. He studied environmental sciences at the University of Alberta and Lakeland College, with course work focused on restoration ecology and conservation biology.
Ryan brings professional experience in forest restoration, reclamation, agroforestry (willow and poplar crops), rangeland management, and biodiversity monitoring. He has worked in applied forestry research and applied conservation programs in the academic, non-profit, and government sectors. His vast knowledge of native plants and a variety of ecosystems is valuable in assisting partners achieve their restoration project goals. In his spare time Ryan enjoys being outdoors cross-country skiing, hiking, camping, and identifying plants and fungi.
