DESCRIPTION:The prairies – including the Grande Prairie region – are home to a diversity of fruit producing species bursting with valuable antioxidants and other nutrients. Yet these species continue to be underutilized in our diets. On February 5th\, join the County of Grande Prairie No. 1 and the Agroforestry and Woodlot Extension Society for a hands-on workshop on low-tech\, ecologically-based fruit production\, harvesting\, and processing. The workshop will begin with a presentation that covers: \n\nPromising fruit species for Alberta\nHow to design\, establish\, and maintain your own “food forest”\nLow-tech strategies for harvesting and processing fruit\n\nFollowing this presentation\, participants will get the chance to build their own berry sorters that will make processing saskatoons\, chokecherries\, currants\, and haskaps a breeze! Participants need to bring their own drill and bits (1/8” for making pilot holes\, along with Phillips and #2 Robertson). \nSnacks and refreshments will be provided. DESCRIPTION:Join us in Flagstaff County and learn about the lives and needs of bumblebees and other pollinators while building a bumblebee house to support native bumblebee populations! \nOnly 20 boxes available (1 box per family)! $10/person. Participants need to bring their own drill (fully charged) and/or screwdriver (Phillips and #1 Robertson)\, all other materials are provided. Supper is also included. \nPre-registration required.
